TeacherDiana Alejandre is an experienced professional flamenco dancer, teacher, and choreographer. At the age of 11, she began studying flamenco and Spanish dance. She has studied in Spain and the United States with master teachers such as Ciro, Manolo Marín, La Farruquita, José Galván, and Pepita de Córdoba. Ms. Alejandre performed as a soloist with the Cruz Luna Company and Rosa Montoya's Bailes Flamencos. She also has performed in concert halls and cabarets in Spain and the United States. Ms Alejandre is cofounder and Artistic Director of Arte Flamenco. Ms. Alejandre has been teaching flamenco dance for nearly 20 years. She has taught at San José Ballet, Silicon Valley; the City of Palo Alto; the Sunnyvale Community Center; and numerous other venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Ms. Alejandre stresses the importance of a good foundation. When tackling new choreography, she reassures her students, telling them that first they will crawl, then they will walk, and then they will run. Ms. Alejandre is patient, conveying to her students that whatever they don't get this week, they'll get the next. Recognizing that students sometimes feel anxiety when learning, she invites her students to "let go." Sometimes overanalyzing a step causes a block, and letting go helps a student to overcome it.
